Wynne Melville Jones (Wyn Mel) is a familiar name in Wales, following his pioneering work in bilingual public relations and his long-term involvement with the Urdd movement. Now, as a former art student, he has returned to his main interest — fine art — and works from his home studio in Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn (Llandre), Ceredigion.
He founded the first bilingual PR company in Wales, StrataMatrix, in 1979, and successfully managed it for 30 years. He is the Honorary President of the Urdd and created the beloved character Mistar Urdd, who has charmed the children of Wales for over 36 years. He was also one of the founders of the weekly magazine Golwg, and maintains his connection with the company.
His autobiography, Y Fi a Mistar Urdd a'r Cwmni Da, was published by Y Lolfa in 2010. In 2012 another of his plans was realised when Llwybr Llên Llanfihangel Genau'r Glyn was opened — a path built in a family forest, as a permanent celebration of the poetic tradition of the area, and which is open to the public 365 days a year.
Exhibitions of his work have been held in Aberystwyth, Fishguard, Aberaeron, Tregaron, Bala, Llandeilo, Cardiff and London.

Having reconnected with the brush, Wynne challenged himself to paint Cors Caron in all four seasons. Welsh icons consistently capture his eye, and his inspiration comes from his upbringing in Tregaron and from the heritage and culture of western communities. There is no doubt that the beauty of Pembrokeshire greatly captivates him.
Many of his paintings have generated interest far beyond Wales. His painting of Soar-y-Mynydd — the most remote chapel in Wales — is owned by former US President, Jimmy Carter. His painting of Ynys Llanddwyn is in the possession of a German art collector. And his painting of Elvis Rock, Eisteddfa Gurig, has generated so much interest in America that a limited edition print is now in the Elvis Presley archive in Graceland, Tennessee.
His aim is to convey the unique character and atmosphere of Wales through paint on canvas.
